Privacy Policy — X History
1. Who we are
“X History” is a browser extension that keeps a local history of posts you open or interact with on the X (Twitter) website. This policy describes how the extension handles information when you use it.
2. Information we process
The extension may store the following locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local):
- Post ID and URL
- Author handle and display snippet (title/text excerpt)
- Avatar image URL (if available on the page)
- Timestamps for visits and interactions
- Source tags for how an item was recorded (e.g. opened detail, like, repost, reply, bookmark, careful read)
- UI preferences needed for the history feature
Items may be recorded when you open a post detail page, when you use on-page actions such as like / repost / reply / bookmark, or when you carefully read a post in the timeline under conservative focus rules. Data is read from the X page you are viewing. It is not collected from other websites.
3. How we use information
- To show your history in the extension UI on x.com / twitter.com
- To search, filter, and reopen items you previously engaged with
- To enforce local limits (e.g. maximum number of saved items)
4. Data storage and transmission
- Local by default: history is stored in your browser profile on this device.
- No developer servers: the free extension does not send your history to a backend operated by us.
- No account required for core features.
- If a future paid sync feature is introduced, it will be optional and disclosed separately before any upload occurs.
5. Permissions
- storage — save history and preferences on device
- webNavigation — detect in-site navigation on X so post opens can be recorded and the History view stays consistent
- Host access to x.com / twitter.com — inject the History menu/UI and read on-page metadata for items you open or interact with
6. Third parties
The extension does not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. When you use X, X’s own privacy policy applies to your activity on their service.
Avatar images may be loaded from X’s image hosts (e.g. twimg) when displayed in the history list; that request is made by your browser to those hosts.
7. Data retention and deletion
- You can delete individual items or clear all history in the UI.
- Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage according to your browser’s behavior.
- A maximum number of recent items may be kept automatically.
8. Children’s privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13. Do not use it if you are not permitted to use X under applicable rules.
9. Changes
We may update this policy when features change. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, contact the publisher email listed on the Chrome Web Store listing for “X History”, or open an issue on the project’s public repository if available.
